The
First International Workshop on the "Semantic Web: Models,
Architectures and Management (SemWeb'2000)" has taken
place in Lisbon, Portugal on September 22, 2000 in conjunction
with ECDL2000 (European Conference on Digital Libraries).
The main
themes addressed by the SemWeb'2000 comprised "Formal Foundations
of Web Metadata Standards", "Semantic Interoperability Frameworks",
and "Intelligent Information/Service Brokering Architectures".
The workshop drew a high quality of submissions and a large
audience of about 50. Out of 28 papers submitted, only 9 could
be accepted for presentation.
The program
also included a keynote presentation by Dr. Amit Sheth (University
of Georgia, Talee Corp.), as well as an invited talk by Hans
Georg Stork (European Commission) on the Commission's IST
Programme vision and priorities on the Semantic Web.
Before
that first workshop, Dieter Fensel initiated and oganized
a closed seminar entitled "Semantic for the WWW" in March
2000.
